Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

It has been a very busy year yet again. The general election bought many highs and lows, with a fantastic gain in Eastbourne. I think we are now all looking forward to a well deserved rest!

This years key legislation has come to a head in my Committee in the European Parliament. I am facing ten times the amount of work as I finalise laws to reshape Europe's financial architecture, which includes the regulation of bankers bonuses.

As well as overseeing trialogues, Commissioner hearings and monetary dialogues, demand to speak at international financial conferences has not let up. This year my schedule was so full I found myself having to turn down visits to India, Finland, Hungary and the United States.

The UK is getting in on the act to with the Treasury calling me in to brief them on what is happening in Europe on a regular basis. The media has taken a key interest in my work also, and I have been sought out for briefings by the Financial Times!

Work in the constituency has also been on the increase, with more casework this year than ever before. I have tried to get to as many local parties as possible but I am sorry if I did not manage to see you. Issues in the constituency have included the ongoing Equitable Life saga, affects of the Common Fisheries Policy, and legislation on animal testing.

The new year brings the countdown to the AV referendum and local elections. These elections will be hard fought but I know we will rise to the challenge. The Brussels and constituency offices will be closed over the Christmas period between Monday 20th December to Tuesday 4th January. Once again allow me to pass along my best wishes for a merry Christmas and a successful new year.

Sharon
