Welcome for Obama's stand against human trafficking

President Obama has declared January National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month, in a move welcomed by South East MEP Catherine Bearder.
The Whitehouse has pledged to work harder in its efforts to stamp out trafficking networks in the US and around the world.
President Obama said: "We recommit to bringing an end to this inexcusable human rights abuse."
Catherine has already spearheaded a campaign to make sure organisers at this year's London Olympics curb sex trafficking around the event.
The Lib Dem MEP has also called for action on the problem at the summer's European Football Championships in Poland and Ukraine.
She said: "2012 is a vital year to drive home the message about human trafficking with two major sporting events expected to drive up demand in the sex industry.
"But women, children and men are forced into commercial sexual exploitation and slavery across the world.
"That is why this declaration from President Obama is so important. This is a global problem. Human trafficking leaves no country untouched."
Catherine last month called for the European Commission to help stamp out child slavery in the West Africa cocoa industry.
Meanwhile, in a speech to the European Parliament in November, she warned about the scale of the human trafficking problem in the Roma community.
President Obama added: "We rededicate ourselves to forging robust international partnerships that strengthen global anti-trafficking efforts."
