MEP visits Guildford youth centre

March 10, 2010 11:07 AM

Surrey's Lib Dem Euro MP, Catherine Bearder, was in Guildford last weekend visiting a local youth project with local Parliamentary Candidate Sue Doughty.

The Plantation Cafe, located in Guildford Town Centre, is a highly respected local project. It's a centre for local teenagers to get together to meet other people their age. The Cafe provides counselling and other services to many who feel they have nowhere else to turn.

Catherine Bearder said, "it was great to meet the guys who work at the Plantation Cafe. They've done a fantastic job to create a safe environment where teenagers can relax, have fun and find comfort in the company of others."

"They can speak to staff about their problems and get professional counselling if necessary. Many of these young people have nowhere else to turn for help."

"The staff there are hardworking, dedicated and very deserving of our support."

The Plantation Cafe is housed and funded by the Guildford YMCA. It also receives funding from the Prince's Trust. Sue Doughty added, "the work with young people is supported by the YMCA who are doing a great job in helping kids find themselves, and build the confidence they need for the future."
