Sharon disappointed at Tour of Britain no show

September 10, 2010 1:00 PM

The Tour of Britain, the UK's biggest cycling event, will not pass through South East England.

The Tour, which starts tomorrow in Rochdale, North West England, has only passed through the South East on two occasions since it began in 2004.

Sharon Bowles, who represents South East England at the European Parliament, said:

"I am disappointed that Tour of Britain organisers have overlooked the South East again, as was the case last year.

"The last time the Tour of Britain passed through the South East was back in 2008 with a stage at Milton Keynes.

"There are thousands of cycling fans here in the South East, not to mention the year-round competitive cycling events held across the region.

"That said, I hope to see the Tour of Britain back in the South East next year."
