Clive Jones, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Wokingham constituency, has called on Tory bosses at Wokingham Borough Council to apply for European Union funding to pay for new flood defences to stop the River Loddon flooding at LoddonBridge and the showcase cinema. He has also suggested they ask for money from the EU to stop the river flooding the road between Arborfield and Shinfield.

Clive Jones Calls on Council to Apply for European Funding to Improve Flood Defences

Clive Jones says, "Grants from the EU are available to improve flood defences. If a local authority asks for them there is a very good chance that money will become available at no cost to the local rate payers. I have asked Wokingham Borough Council to do this and will follow it up with them. I see no reason why we should not get the funding: all that is required is the political will for the local Tory bosses to ask the EU for money."

The EU has in the last year paid out millions of Euros to Germany and the CzechRepublic following the floods in Central Europe at the beginning of 2013
